Still on the Vent

Still on the ventilator - we got down to turning the NO2 off and Bailey's PA shot up to 80 (from 50's) so went back to 1.0 on the NO2. Plan was to go down by .1 every hour or so - we got down to .9 and Bailey's PA steadily increased to 80's again. Then had to go all the way up to 10.0 on the NO2 before her PA rested in the 50's. Ok. That's the technical stuff. Basically, this medication that they need to ween off before they can take her off the vent is very, very "touchy". They nearly had her off of it but it just didn't work out yet. So, we're trying again today to ween off. They say not to worry because they'll get it off - it just can be a very slow process sometimes.

Bailey is doing well. Her temp was high yesterday afternoon but it was decided that it was because the thermostat in the room broke and it was 90 in there! Maintenance men weren't too happy about coming back a 2nd time, but, hey, it would have been quite a sight to see a mom wrestling a "big" maintenance guy in the hallway of ICU. Glad we didn't have to do that, but I was ready!

Bailey's feeling good - I actually think she might be getting used to the tube. She's still hungry and thirsty though. Her day nurse, Chris, was with us for 3 days and now she's supposed to have her 4 days off, but she heard Bailey had a not-so-easy night and came in again today. She's wonderful!! (She's the one Bailey told her she loved her.)

So, I imagine today will be slow weening off the vent again - hopefully we'll get somewhere this time. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and messages and cards. You guys are the BEST!

Love, Angie
