New Machine Working Fine

Not much going on today. Bailey woke up pretty nauseous - we think it's just lingering from her last dose of IVIG Sunday night. We didn't do school today because of it. The teachers here at Riley are trying to organize a meeting with the teachers at Bailey's school so we can be sure to get done all the work that we need to do before the end of the school year, which is about 3 1/2 weeks away. I can't say enough about the teachers here at the hospital. They have really gone above and beyond to keep Bailey caught up. However, it's been pretty difficult to get work from school. I'm really surprised by it.

New machine is working just fine. Bailey got a little nervous last night - she said it sounded different and asked about what we do if it stops working. So we went through all the back-up safety procedures just in case. I think she was just still a little nervous about the switch. There is one thing, though. It seems to be a litte more sensitive than the other one about alarming with a "left drive line filling insufficiently". On the old one, it would only alarm if she sat Indian style with the pump laying on top of her right thigh - she had to sit with it between her legs so it wouldn't kink. With this one, she can't really "relax" (if you know what I mean) while sitting on the toilet or it will alarm. It scared her at first, but we ended up laughing about it. We ran it by Dr. T just in case it really was a problem. He said the solution is to just not go to the bathroom anymore.

Since they took away the isolation today, we were able to get out of our room. We took the new machine - we call him "Ike" since he technical name of the model is Ikus - down to Hollywood Video movie day today in the cafeteria. They were showing Mulan II. It was pretty good and very nice to take a walk. Dr. T came around while we were out of our room and asked the nurse, "Where'd my heart go?" He caught up with us later.

Bailey and I started a new afghan - this time crocheting. It goes a lot faster. It's granny squares (for those of you who know what that is), and she's supposed to do half of them and I'm supposed to do the other half. However, I'm afraid she's going to quit on me - she likes to start all sorts of projects but tends to get bored with them and lay them down . . . forever. We also started a model of a Blue Angels jet today. It's a lot of fun to do together.

Well, that about does it for today. Pretty low-key, which is just fine.

Love to all!

Angie
